Disney's "JOHN CARTER" is releasing in theatres tomorrow, 3/9.This movie is about a civil war vet who becomes a prisoner of creatures on another planet. That planet is Mars or Barsoom. The movie begins as nephew, Edgar, is brought to the residence of his uncle,John Carter. He has learned of his death and what is left to him. As he reads a letter left for him, the story is told.
John Carter, played by Taylor Kitsch, after fighting a battle on Earth is transplanted to Mars unknowingly. Soon after he is taken prisoner by the creatures of Barsoom, he escapes and later realizes that he must help them save their planet. Once he sees that he has powers that he did not have on Earth, he uses them to fight his battles. A bit of humor is thrown into this action/adventure. One scene being when John Carter first arrives on the planet Mars and tries to walk. The movie is rated PG-13 due to violence and gore. However, since it is fantasy, I did not find it to be unsuitable for my 10 year old. 'John Carter' is based on the book 'Princess of Mars'. I have not read the book so I cannot compare but I enjoyed all the action. Of course seeing it in 3D really brought out the best in the battle scenes as well as in the lay of the land. It did not make me feel like something was coming at me.
